This weekend, we returned from our first Calpaca Wild West Alpaca Show and Golden West Alpaca Expo in Sacramento, California. As an alpaca owner, it was fulfilling to connect with others who share an appreciation for these animals. The atmosphere was lively, with attendees coming together to showcase their alpacas and share experiences.

Preparing for the Show

Setting up our booth was only the beginning; getting the alpacas ready requires effort. Grooming and settling the alpacas takes work.I was particularly proud of Gold Strike, our newest alpaca and the first one we've entered in a show. His soft, lusterous fleece truly shines, captivating everyone who sees him.

The Day of Judgement

Finally, the big weekend arrived! Nerves and excitement mingled as the show progressed. As I prepared to enter the ring, the energy was infectious, with spectators eagerly watching and cheering on participants.

When our turn came, my heart raced. I observed the judges closely as they evaluated each alpaca’s coat, conformation, and presentation. It was vital that Gold Strike and I exuded professionalism and confidence. As I gracefully guided him around the ring, it felt as if we were in sync, showcasing the bond we have started developing.

When the judging concluded, I was overjoyed to hear that we earned 3rd place against some other amazing alapacs!

Reflections and Future Adventures

Driving home with our 3rd place ribbon hung up in the tack room filled me with pride and gratitude. Each show brings valuable lessons about our animals and fosters connections among fellow alpaca enthusiasts and new friends. This experience ignited my passion for alpacas and highlighted the sense of community that comes with being part of this incredible network.

Moving forward, I eagerly anticipate future shows, knowing that every success, no matter how small, is a part of this wonderful journey with my alpacas.

Here’s to more adventures on the horizon and the friendships built along the way!
